The Crew of the SS Fellowship was founded June 26, 1931, by John Armbruster, one of the original members of the St. Louis Junior Chamber of Commerce, officially established in June 1920. Armbruster founded the Crew to keep the past officers in fellowship, send out a newsletter called the Log of the SS Fellowship, and sponsor reunions of the members.
The Crew members are past national executive officers of JCI USA (the Jaycees) who have completed their terms (national vice presidents, appointed voting officers, and national presidents). Individuals who have rendered special or extensive service to the U.S. Jaycees may also be nominated and approved for membership in the Crew. The executive officer of the Crew is the Keeper of the Log. Second Mates assist the Keeper.
Reunions are generally held annually, often at the same time and place as the annual meeting of the U.S. Jaycees. They include discussions of the U.S. Jaycees both past and present, fellowship, and a business meeting. The next reunion is at St. Louis in October 2021 with the celebration of the Jaycees’ hundredth anniversary. The Crew is especially focused on keeping alive the history, traditions and values of theJaycees. John Sprole, Keeper of the Log.
